CFDb Guidelines ~ What films get posted to CFDb

October 9, 2012 by

CFDb Guidelines

The first question that might be asked is the age old question.  What is a Christian film?  You can literally ask everyone in the world that question and you would probably receive a different answer from each one. We know because we’ve asked so many people this question before. This makes it extremely difficult to know what films to add to CFDb.  We’ve come up with some guidelines that we want to share with you so you can know, as a filmmaker, if we will add your film to the database.  We also want to inform you, the consumer, as to what films to expect on the database.

CFDb Guidelines

  • The film must show a need for God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit in some way.
  • The film is marketed to the Christian Community, therefore Christians will be searching for it on the database.
  • The film is based on a Christian book.  Sometimes the Christianity is taken out of the movie.  We will make a note of that in the comments.
  • The film must be longer than 15 minutes and if it is a short film, it must be available for purchase somewhere, such as a website, or FB.
  • The film must be a call to action film where the church should be involved, not necessarily Christian in content, but factual.

Some things to consider

  • There are some rare exceptions to the above rules.
  • We list Christian films, no matter who makes them.  If the film itself fits the criteria, we will list them.
  • Just because a filmmaker or an actor/actress may be Christian, that does not mean the film itself will be listed on the database.  It still has to fit at least one of the above criteria.
  • We will place Parental Warnings in the comments on the film page if it’s needed, as well as state if a film is not really a Christian film.
  • We highly discourage the use of foul language in any Christian film.  There are films on the database with foul language in them, a parental warning would be mentioned in the comments.
  • CFDb will not do any official blog reviews on films with foul language in them.

ADD/UPDATE a Christian Film to CFDb

If you would like to have your Christian film added to CFDb, just click on the link above to add a film or update a film that is already on the database.

Who Can Add a Film to CFDb

You do NOT have to be a filmmaker to add a film.  If you are a consumer and see a film missing that you think should be there, just fill out the basic details on the film, such as title and possibly the description and we’ll do the rest of the information.  We want the database to be as complete as possible.

Hidden Rage

Joshua, a 17 year old student, goes to school every day, because he has to. Every day he gets picked on, beat up, and bullied. His teachers aren’t aware, security can only react to what they see and his only friend; Stephen, is too afraid to step to his defense. There are signs that his rage is trying to escape, but no one sees them. He indulges his anger in the games that he plays, the lists that he keeps and the movies that he watches.

Until one day he gets pushed too far.

CFDb Movie Review

This movie is receiving our HIGHEST recommendation review!  This is a movie that should be seen by teenagers AND their parents!  There is a strong message in this film that comes out so clearly!  Very well done!  This is a powerful film!

I once read a statement in a book a long time ago that I never could get out of my mind.  It goes something like this, “Every word you utter, every act you perform, is a seed that will bear good or evil fruit, and will result in joy or sorrow to the sower.”  This film also shows and talks about how all of our actions will cause a reaction for good or for bad.

It’s interesting, this past weekend I heard a sermon that brought out the fact that America has lost their sense of community.  We are a people that pride ourselves with the fact we are all individuals, we can do it on our own, but God never intended it to be that way.  We are surrounded by the idea to do it our own way, to put ourselves first.  Our whole focus is on self, which is entirely ANTI-BIBLICAL!  We’ve forgotten that we ARE our brother’s keeper.  Our kids and all of us need a SAFE PLACE TO GO!  I wonder if we would all make that commitment to be that person that goes out of our way to help others.  To be the sort of parents our kids can trust.  Even if you aren’t a parent, you can still make a difference in a child’s life somehow.

The statistics at the end of this film made me cry.  The idea that a person loses all hope because of circumstances in their lives is horrible.  We live in a world of hope and yet somehow we get so wrapped up in self the hope is lost.  It’s all about our focus!  I know this because I was one of those teens that attempted suicide.  I did NOT know God at the time and it seemed as if everything that could go wrong, did.  When I look back at the most darkest times in my life I thank God that I was spared because there is going to come a time in each of our lives when things go really well, even fantastic for us and we enjoy life.  I once heard a preacher talk about when he was growing up he thought of suicide every day.  So what kept him from doing it?  He kept thinking, well not today, maybe something great will happen to me tomorrow.  I wish we could somehow get this message to all of humanity.  The message of HOPE!

We all have a purpose in life, but we lose sight of that and this leads us to depression!  Let’s all make a commitment to make a difference in the lives of the people around us.  Let us go out of our way to help others, to give others hope.  Don’t ever tell someone they are hopeless or won’t amount to anything.  Those are only words of the devil.  We’ve all heard these discouraging words from others at one point or another.  Let it go and remember Jesus died for EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US!  Thinking of that always brings me back to hope!

Even though this isn’t being released until July 17, 2012, you can

Purchase this film ahead of time at Christianbook.com!

You can also rent this film in the future at Netflix!  If you add the film to your queue it will cause Netflix to get the film available faster!

Don't miss this great film with it's great message!

CFDb Interviews Michael S. Thomas ~ Child Actor

= > How old were you when you started acting?

I started acting when I was 4 years old.

= > What year did you begin acting?

I began acting in 2007 and I have been acting for 5 years.

= > How/Why did you get involved in acting?

Even before I became an actor, I had always loved being on the stage. Whenever there was a church event I would always want to be a part of it.

When I was 4, I was at the mall with my parents and I saw a stage and asked to go on it. It turned out that the stage was there for an agency that was scouting for talent. They asked me to do a short performance where I was later awarded a 1 year contract with their agency. After my contract was up, my mom became my manager. She continued finding me work which has kept me very busy.

= > What is the most popular movie you acted in?

The most poplular movie I am in is called REMNANTS. It was written by Paul Hillburger and directed by Tim Szczesniak. It is starring Robert Pralgo ,Vanelle and Jeff Briggs. ‘Remnants’ is slated to be released later this year.

= > What is the most favorite movie you acted in?

My most favorite movie I acted in would be REMNANTS. I play the son of the 2 leads. In the movie my name is Dave Bernard and I play the role of a child with Autism. I was off and on set for an entire year to film ‘Remnants’. I had such a fun time with all the cast and crew during these times.

= > What else have you done besides acting?

Besides acting, I have done modeling, print work, commercial and TV. Currently, I am a series regular on a Kids TV Show called ‘Kid Time’ that films in Charlotte, NC.

I also have my own segment on the show. I am the Host for ‘Michael’s Counting Adventures’ where I learn to count to 10 in different languages with kids of different nationalities.

= > What is the name of the latest film you starred in?

The Latest film I acted in was called ‘The Hearing List’. ‘The Hearing List’ was a short film for a film contest I was in directed by Richard Guinn. I played the role of David. In the film, I drive this old man, played by James Harvley, nuts with his hearing device! It is a really funny film and I had a great time playing this role.

My most recent project that I worked on was for the Inspiration Network. It is called ‘Heaven’. It is a series on “Inspiration Today” about the life of Trudy Harris. I play Trudy’s son on one of the episodes. I really liked being on this project and I would be honored to get to work on it again. The cast and crew were awesome to work with and the show was very special.

= > Something we find unique about your family is that we heard you were all in ‘Pendulum Swings’. Tell us how your parents were involved in the film? Can we look for them and easily spot them when we watch the film?

The feature Film ‘Pendulum Swings’ is directed by Bill Rahn and starring Adam Melton and Vanessa Ore. It has played in several theaters around NC. It should be coming out on video soon, although we aren’t sure when.

I play the role of the nephew to the lead Adam Melton. My name is Jerry in the film. I was very excited when the director asked me to do a scene that was very special to him. I really enjoyed working with the cast and crew on Pendulum Swings.

You can see my parents in the feature film ‘Pendulum Swings’. My mom and dad both became extras and can be seen in 3 different scenes. They were in 2 different restaurant scenes with me and also we were all guests in a wedding scene. My mom and dad sometimes get asked to be extras when I am on set. Just a few weeks ago when I was doing the TV show for the Inspiration Network, my dad was asked to be an extra for one of the scenes. So, while I was filming in one area, my dad booked a job in the next room. It is pretty cool when that happens. My parents have been extras in several other films I have been in over the years.

= > What do  you love most about acting?

I love to be in front of the camera. It is my favorite thing to do. I like being able to play other roles. I also love being with the cast and crew on set. It is so much fun. I have made some really great friends since I started acting and I am always excited to make new ones. I hope some day that I can do a film where I get to share the love of Jesus.

= > How can people get in touch with you or learn more about you?

People can find me on The Internet Movie Database. My link is

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3656112/. On my link you can see some of the projects I have worked on and you can watch some of the trailers too.

You can also find me on Facebook. My Acting Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelSThomasActor

= > Do you have any advice for children who desire to get into the acting field?

Acting is really hard work with long hours, so you should try it out first and see if you like it. Sometimes I am on set all day. But, If you really love something, you should do whatever it takes to fulfill your dreams. I am! I have the most fun when I am on set and I love it!

Thank you for having me.

Michael S. Thomas

For Greater Glory: The True Story of Cristiada

A chronicle of the Cristeros War (1926-1929), which was touched off by a rebellion against the Mexican government’s attempt to secularize the country.

What price would you pay for freedom? In the exhilarating action epic For Greater Glory (formerly titled Cristiada), an impassioned group of men and women each make the decision to risk it all for family, faith and the very future of their country, as General Gorostieta (Andy Garcia), the retired military man who at first thinks he has nothing personal at stake as he and his wife (Eva Longoria) watch Mexico fall into a violent civil war. Yet the man who hesitates in joining the cause will soon become the resistance’s most inspiring and self-sacrificing leader, as he begins to see the cost of religious persecution on his countrymen… and transforms a rag-tag band of rebels into a heroic force to be reckoned with.

The General faces impossible odds against a powerful and ruthless government. Yet it is those he meets on the journey – youthful idealists, feisty renegades and, most of all, one remarkable teenager named Jose – who reveal to him how courage and belief are forged even when justice seems lost.

CFDb Film Review

There is NO doubt in my mind that this is one of two of the most powerful films I’ve ever seen in my entire life.  Both of these all time favorite films of mine are TRUE! (If you are curious about my other all time favorite film – it’s “To End All Wars!

Roger was able to see this at a screening before the film came out and he wrote an excellent review on the CFDb Film Page.

But this past weekend I was also able to see this film in the theater and WOW!  This is not a film you can go to without bringing a tissue.

I had mixed emotions throughout the film as I was unsure what I would do in a situation like this.  You will have to go see the movie to understand fully and I do not want to give any spoilers.

Although this is definitely too much for young children, I do recommend this for everyone to see and then decide whether you want your children to see it as well.  It really gives you a LOT to think about.  How strong is my faith?  What would I be willing to do to fight for my religious freedom?  What would I give for my Lord and Saviour?

My Favorite Character

So, this boy makes the film for me!  You’ll completely understand why after watching the film.  What strength of character and in such a young boy.  We don’t give our young people enough credit.  Sometimes they have more strength of character than the adults.

Check out For Greater Glory for more information about the film!

This film is STILL in theaters so go see it today!

CFDb Film Review

If you saw “Cutback“, then “Hardflip” will be a favorite for you as well.  The movies are quite similar, and yet different as well!  One thing I really liked about Hardflip was that there were 2 unique ways of presenting the Gospel that I’ve never seen before in any other movie.  I can’t describe it too well as it would be a spoiler for the movie. I will say that with the one scene I talked about it afterwards how it was so unique and wonderful!  I really enjoyed that!.
